All Whitsunday Escape bareboats rely on a 12 v battery bank to run the on-board appliances, such as refrigerators, lights, water pumps, toilets, televisions, invertors and anchor winches.
The battery banks are only large enough to keep the average boat running without recharging for about 12 hours.
It is the skipper’s responsibility to monitor the batteries and recharge them as needed.
The batteries can be recharged, depending on the boat by:
The alternators on the engines (the most effective)
Solar panels (if fitted)
A 240 v generator (if fitted) to providing 240 v electricity to the battery charger.
The battery charger when plugged into shore power.
In most cases you will need to run the boats engines (the alternators) for at least 1.5 hours a time, at two intervals a day for a total of 3 hours.
