Montes Reef Resort is one of the northernmost places to visit in the Whitsunday Escape cruising area. There are two down-to-earth resorts here at Cape Gloucester Passage. Montes and the Cape Gloucester Eco Resort which are both a short beach stroll away from each other and will take you back to old time Whitsundays. This mainland beach and anchorage offers:
A well protected bay from most wind conditions, this is great option to get a mid charter land fix, have a break from self-catering and let the kids run around and explore the beautiful and calm beach while you sit back with a cocktail.
Wind protection only from:
Take care when navigating Gloucester Passage and don’t be tempted to go between the mainland and Shag Islet as the reef is far too shallow.
Moorings available outside Cape Gloucester Eco Resort.
Montes Resort is also the unofficial Club House of the Shag Islet Cruising Yacht Club. An annual fundraising event for prostate cancer is held here, with a huge four day long party on the beachfront at the end of August every year. All Vice Commodores try and attend this event whether on a boat or not. Anyone can become a Vice Commodore of the SICYC, and everyone is welcome to join in the party. (And boast about being a “Shagger” as all Vice Commodores of SICYC are called).
