Clean Up Australia Day 2024
Clean Up Australia Day occurs annually on the first Sunday of March, bringing together schools and businesses nationwide in a collective effort to preserve the cleanliness of our towns, beaches, and natural landscapes. This year, the event witnessed a remarkable participation with over 10,000 Clean Ups organized throughout the country, and for the second consecutive year, we joined in!
We cruised out on our Leopard 48.4 & Leopard 48, with 32 keen hands aboard. Due to tides and timings, we visited Double Cone Island which is around 9nm from our base at Coral Sea Marina. The collected rubbish was around 100kg, with many plastic items which we sorted and recycled back at base.
Whitsunday Escape’s Event Organiser, Beth, said ‘It was a great turn out and a lovely day on the water. To have less rubbish found than last year is a testament to people’s efforts in keeping our waterways clean. We thank every one of our team members and their family who joined us on the day. Also a huge thanks to our boat investors, who allowed use of their boats. Without them we couldn’t take part in this important cause.’
The Whitsunday Islands are a tropical haven that remain pristine due to the actions of all who visit here. As part of our commitment to sustainability, we actively encourage our bareboat customers to embrace practices of reuse, reduction, and recycling during their charters, while also providing education on sustainable habits. We believe a Whitsunday Escape charter is for everyone, and we strive to preserve the natural beauty of this stunning destination for generations to come.
