Whitsunday Escape sponsors University of Queensland Sailing team
This year in Perth, the University of Queensland Sailing Club blitzed the sailing events at the Uni Games. They took victory in an outstanding 18 of 24 sailing team events and were awarded gold medals as the Australian University Sport Sailing Champions, ending the University of Western Australia’s 6 year winning streak.
Well done Team UQ!
Whitsunday Escape sponsored the UQ Sailing Club team to help them get to the Uni Games in Perth.
The University of Queensland has been sailing the Whitsundays many times a year over the past 10 years or so. With a great relationship between Whitsunday Escape and the UQ Sailing Club, we’ve welcomed the young sailors up to 3 times a year for a bareboat charter around the Whitsunday islands.
The gold medal winning uni games team this year was made up of:
- Harry Lamb
- Georgie Costin
- Nick Buckley
- Claire Miller
- Matthew Lakis
- Trevor Koreman
A foe of the other notable events they have previously entered are:
– 2014 Australian University Games
– 2015 Australian University Games
– 2015 Australian World Qualifications, VIC
– 2015 ISAF Teams Racing World Championships, UK
– 2016 Laser Performance Collegiate Cup, Italy
They are a great team and take racing very seriously. All their hard work this year has certainly paid off. They competed in the 2016 Laser Performance Collegiate Cup in Italy in August with the support of Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron.
Future events they are training for are the 2017 Australian Teams Racing Nationals – January 2017 and Worlds in July 2017.
